The Routledge Companion to Ecopoetics offers comprehensive coverage of the vital and growing movement of ecopoetics. We understand the term ecopoetics as including innovative approaches to the entanglement of individuals, cultures, and languages with the natural systems that permeate and envelop them. We begin with the assumption that ecopoetics is not a genre such as ecopoetry or nature poetry, but rather a dynamic field of inquiry and a laboratory for new ways of knowing. The collection will be global in scope, with contributors drawn from a wide range of nations, ethnicities, and gender identities.

To address the current gaps in this volume, we invite academic proposals that explore one or more of these topics in relation to twentieth and twenty-first century ecopoetics, broadly conceived:

  • Queer ecologies
  • Disability
  • Climate change
  • Marginalized or underrepresented voices and/or minorized languages
  • Decolonization
  • African diaspora
  • Indian ecopoetics
  • Francophone ecopoetics
  • Transcultural and transnational ecopoetics

Proposals that also stage poetry and poetics within other fields of inquiry, including science, critical animal studies, ethnobotany, and environmental justice issues are encouraged. Please send a provisional 250-word abstract by July 31 to ecopoetics2020@gmail.com A full essay of 5000 words, including notes, will be due November 1.
